MEDIA PRODUCER

The Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) is a NATO organisation that was established in Stavanger, Norway, on 23 October 2003. It promotes and conducts NATO’s joint and combined training, experimentation, analysis and doctrine development processes to maximise transformational synergy and to improve NATO’s capabilities and interoperability. The JWC also assist Allied Command Transformation with developmental work on new technologies, modelling and simulation.

Joint Training Division

The primary role of this post is to produce media simulation services for Phase III training delivery. The post-holder leads one of two teams of two people providing this capability within the Training & Education Section.

Principal Duties
1. Coordinates media production requirements with training/exercise planners to determine media simulation content and structure, to include simulated TV news services.
2. Directs and supervises media production to include scheduling, placing contracts for specialised services, set design, shooting, sound recording, editing, laboratory preparation and completion.
3. Participates in the production of scripts, slide/tape programmes and motion media projects including original footage and animation.
4. Previews media products with training/exercise planners, edit films, revises artwork and incorporates titles and animations.
5. Assists in teaching media workshops and educational programmes in the mechanics and application of still and motion media as well as audiovisual equipment.
6. Maintains inventory of required cinematographic supplies and equipment.

Additional Duties.
The incumbent may also be required to perform other similar duties as directed this could include operational deployment and/or temporary duty both within and beyond NATO’s boundaries.

Essential Qualifications
Professional/Experience.
At least three years of experience in media production or similar post to include either pre-programmed or live broadcast experience. Ability to operate a range of media-related equipment such as digital and video cameras, and graphics software programs.
Broad knowledge of video directing and production requirements.

Education/Training.
University degree or equivalent in a media-related subject or higher secondary education combined with advanced vocational training in a media-related subject leading to a recognised professional qualification or professional accreditation.

Language English – Very Good (SLP 4444)

Standard Automated Data Processing (ADP) Knowledge.
a.Word Processing: Working Knowledge.
b.Spreadsheet: Working Knowledge.
c.Graphics Presentation: Advanced Knowledge.
d.Databases: Working Knowledge.

Desirable Qualifications
Familiar with a wide range of video and photographic production techniques and related equipment. Previous studio experience producing television news or current affairs programmes.

Personal Attributes
Works with minimal supervision within own field. Considerable maturity and professional judgement is required to facilitate and execute media services during execution of exercises and training events, and is regularly required to use tact and persuasion when dealing with senior officials. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Good health and ability to cope with stress. There is a requirement to work under pressure, with high workload and some irregular working hours. Must be able to travel on temporary duty. Ability to organise and direct the work of a small team.

Managerial Responsibilities.
Coordinates and manages media production programmes. Supervisory responsibility for one OR7. Assists with the evaluation and purchase of cinematographic supplies and equipment. Acts as custodian for cinematographic supplies and equipment.

Professional Contacts.
Co-ordinates closely with exercise/training event planners. Receives media and journalistic guidance from Public Information Officer (PIO). Maintains external contacts to stay up-to-date with developments in his/her field.

Contribution to the Objectives.
Has a major impact on the professionalism and delivery of simulated media services, particularly for TV production and editing issues, during the planning and execution of exercises and real life mission training events. Simulated media services are a key ingredient to the realistic presentation of exercise and training scenarios and directly contribute to the overall objectives of the JWC.

Work Environment.
Normal office environment, but could require 24/7 duty in temporary facilities during exercises.

Remarks
Attends training courses/seminars to maintain functional and professional competence within own field. Attends NATO’s Staff Officer Orientation and Public Information Course at the NATO School.
